| How to Shop for your Perfect Body Shape |
| First and foremost you need to be honest with yourself and determine which features of your body stand out. Everyone's body shape is different. So find a style that will compliment your shape. |
| Then try different garments in order to ascertain what suits your body best. The more your experiment the easier it will be to recognise what suits you. |
| |
| The Apple Shaped Body |
| You may be larger on top and smaller below. This refers to women who are top-heavy, with a larger bust and stomach, but who have thin legs. Avoid bulk and go for side-fastening skirts and dresses to avoid bulk at the front. With your shorter neck wear tops with a V- Line to extend neck. Do not wear anything-tight drawing attention to your waist. Go for wide leg pants and flared skirts look great on your shape. |
| The Pear Shaped Body |
| You hips are usually wider than your shoulders, describes women with narrow shoulders, but wide hips, thighs and bottom. Look at loose fitting tops with A-line skirts and straight-legged pants. Take advantage of the return of the umpire waist dresses this will do your body a great justice. Halter neck dresses are a must too. Scarf, big beaded necklaces and low necklines to accentuate your bust will draw attention away from your hips. Just don't overdue the cleavage. Try wearing clothes that draw attention away from your hips and thighs, such as darker colours that slim, rather than cling on your lower half. |
| The Big Hips Body |
| Stick to dark colours on your bottom half giving your height and drawing attention away from your hips. Try tailored 2 piece suits with a very good cut can also minimise the appearance of your hips. |
| The Straight Body |
| This is a naturally thin shape, which suits draping dresses that create curves in all the right places. This body does not always have a defined waist. Avoid any high waisted clothes. Wrap dresses or low waist dresses. Concentrate on dressing up your bust and leg areas to draw attention away from your waist. Look for angular garments and slabs of colour that can help add shape, and maybe try a waist belt. |
| The Athletic Body |
| You are very lucky being able to wear almost anything, be careful, we do not mean that you can go overboard and mix to many colours and styles together. |
| The Hour Glass Body |
| This applies to women who have curvy hips and bust, and a small waistline. You have a defined waistline. You bust and hips are in proportion. Almost anything will suit you but be careful not to draw too much attention if your waist is really small or your hips will look big. To look your best, wear fitted clothes that clasp your curves and stretch your torso. Cropped jackets are great for you. Also try tops and dresses that are halter neck or strapless. |
| The Top Heavy Body |
| Look at scooped necklines and V-necks. Avoid high necklines and polo neck styles, which will make you, look even more top heavy. |
| The Curvy Body |
| You can go mad in corsets and any skirt to make your shape look even better. Wear tailored pants, which will elongate your legs, and a fitted jacket will polish your look. |
| The Tall Body |
| Skinny jeans look great on your body. With heels at night and ballet shoes in the day. Almost any top will look good on you and experiment with horizontal stripes, which can help minimise your torso. |
| The Petite(Shorter) Shape Body |
| Dark colours are good for your shape helping you look taller. Above the knee skirts and dresses to show off legs. Tailored pants with kitten heel boots will do wonders. |
| |
| Help when looking for a suit |
| |
| What to look for in a suit that will be a cut above the rest: |
| 1 |
Colour - Choose the colours you feel most confident in. Classic colours are black, navy and grey. Pinstripes will give you a more streamlined appearance. |
| 2 |
Fabric - This will add to the overall look of your suit and is most important. No fabric that will crinkle, an easy to care for fabric and how the fabric will fall. |
| 3 |
Jacket Styles - Different style suits look better on different shape bodies. So be sure to experiment here. A longer jacket will make you look more streamlined. Longer body shapes can wear the cropped jacket very well. Pocket detail is individual and is collar style. |
| 4 |
Tailored skirts and pants - Try to add a skirt and pants to your tailored suits giving you versatility for your money. |
| |
| Musts when buying a suit: |
| 1 |
Tailored suits must fit perfectly. Fall perfectly. The jacket collars must rest correctly on your back |
| 2 |
Skirts must have movement in the fabric around your hip area and should fall straight. |
| 3 |
Pants should not be too tight around the crotch area. |
| 4 |
Always make sure the style suits your body shape. |
| 5 |
Look at the wash care of the fabric; to have to dry clean a suit every time you wear it may become costly. |
| |
| How to dress for a wedding |
| Unless a wedding invitation stipulates a particular dress code (explained below), deciding what to wear is pretty much up to you. |
| |
| Keep in mind: |
| 1 |
Do not wear the same colour as the bride; this is her day and not yours. You can wear the same colour as the bridesmaids and mother of the bride though. |
| 2 |
Do pay attention to your outfit; out of respect to the bride and groom, look suitably dressed. Exposing too much flesh is sometimes not tasteful. |
| 3 |
Wear comfortable shoes as some weddings are an all day event and your shoes need to carry you through the night too. |
| 4 |
A good idea is to chose two lipsticks one for day and a darker shade to feel more glamorous at the reception. |
| |
| Dress codes on invitations read: |
| 1 |
Morning suit - if the wedding is before 3pm. Usually a penquin suit with top hat and tails is most popular for men. |
| 2 |
Black Tie - most common and you have the flexibility to go very glam. Wear a feminine dress with an evening style twist to it. The rule is that you should look dressier than normal. |
| 3 |
White Tie - For women this will mean that you wear longer dress styles rather than shorter ones. White Tie is a very formal dress code for a wedding. |
| 4 |
Formal Dress - similar to black tie rules. You can wear anything-smart suit, elegant separates or a glamorous long dress. |
| 5 |
Smart/Casual - usually a garden or beach wedding where to can dress little less smart. A glam top with accessories to set off an outfit and idea for this type of wedding. |
| 6 |
Themed - These are fun but can be a nightmare if you are not prepared. Find out exactly what theme is you should dress up as an invited guest no excuse. |
| 7 |
Seasonal Weddings - Buy a dress you can add a shawl, wrap or stole for the chill in the evening. |
| |
| Purchasing Maternity Wear |
| |
| 1 |
Always remember when buying maternity wear that you must feel comfortable and at ease throughout your pregnancy. |
| 2 |
Make sure the fabrics are stretchy and durable, maternity wear must last you until the end of your pregnancy. |
| 3 |
When shopping for maternity wear chose the size you where before you where pregnant. Maternity wear is designed to give you extra room when you need it to. |
| 4 |
It is essential for your outfit to have the right bra. Only buy your nursing bras two months before birth of baby. |
| 5 |
Invest in at least one outfit that will make you feel good. Something elegant or a funky top. It is good to feel good whilst pregnant. |
| 6 |
Accessorise your outfit - this will enhance your style. |
| 7 |
Invest in maternity underwear that will support your belly and back. |
| 8 |
A pair of black stretch pants is a must for day and night. |
| |
